Re/ was conceived to empower music lovers to go back to music they already have, and appreciate it properly: continuously, without interruptions, pressing of buttons, advertisements or subscriptions of any kind.
Technology and digital media should be facilitators that simplify the way we listen to music, instead of platforms that proliferate fundamentally dumb applications or services.
The app is designed for you to launch it, sit back (or exercise), and listen to music you love as soon as the app starts, without the need of tapping buttons or going through multiple levels of navigation before music starts playing.
The name Re/ is a homage to R programming language and the レ Katakana letter.
Re/ offers a personal music analytics that give you visual information and statistics of your music library, the learning progress of the app, and your usage of it.
Top genres - The top music genres that you have in your music library. It also reflects on the music suggested by Re/. Suppressed genres are ignored and not shown here.
Songs processed - The percentage of library items processed by Re/. It varies based on sample size and how often you use the app. Increase the sample size option under settings to speed up this progress.
Learning progress - The total machine learning progress based on songs listened or skipped, listening time and app usage. The higher the progress, the better suggestions are. Continue using the app the increase this progress.
Predictive learning progress - The predictive learning progress. It is only active when "Predictive Play" is enabled. It suggests upcoming tracks based on genre and artist similarity. The higher this progress, the more efficient predictive play will be.
Top songs - The most played songs using Re/. Songs played outside Re/ or using other music players are not included.
Top artists - The most played artists using Re/. Songs played outside Re/ or using other music players are not included.
Recently played songs - The history of recently played songs using Re/.
Make sure the physical files of your songs are actually stored in your phone instead of keeping them only stored on iCloud, which you can do so by turning off iCloud Music Library under your iPhone Settings > Music >
Re/ is constantly learning from you when you use the app to play music or interact with it. You can also like or dislike songs to teach Re/ that a specific song (or genre) is appreciated or should be played less often. If you totally dislike a specific song,
simply press and hold the dislike button until the song rating reaches zero stars. Then press the dislike button one more time to add the song to the list of suppressed/ignored songs, which you can always revise under Re/ Settings > Suppressed Songs.
Predictive Play allows you to listen to sequences organized by genre and/or artist similarity, resulting in a more fluid and consistent listening experience.
For example, when Predictive Play is turned on, the next artist may be Beatles after you listen to John Lennon (as long as you have these artists in your library).
Not really. Using Re/ to listen to music with Predictive Play results in a different experience than using the app with the option turned off. It all depends on your personal preferences and listening expectations. If you want more consistent sequences that aren't very diversified, then you should enable Predictive Play.
If you prefer a more diversified listening experience where each song may be completely different from one another, then you should use Re/ without Predictive Play.
You need to actually listen to songs (or skip them) for the predictive algorithms to learn from it and increase the progress. The predictive learning progress should be the slowest of all. It takes time and lots of music listening, so don't expect to have anything close to 10% within a couple of hours of listening.
The app is targeted at users who have music libraries stored in their phones. A future update of the app may be compatible with streaming services.
Currently, all music played by Re/ comes from your iPhone's library of songs that you already have, but are probably forgotten and hiding somewhere, simply because when blind consumerism is a strategy, nobody cares to create a decent music app that addresses the issue.
The results may not be good enough if you don't have a reasonable amount of music files in your library. Try adding more songs to your library or keep interacting with the app. The more you use it, the better the results will get.
The minimum recommended quantity is 500 songs. Alternatively, you can down vote songs that are being played more than what you would like or expect them to.
It's essential to have a music library of songs locally stored in your iOS device. The more songs if you have, and the more you play them with the app, the better your experience will be.
Re/ acquires basic intelligence from your initial library configuration, but it is important to let the app learn from your listening behaviour by constantly using it to play music. (e.g. liking or disliking songs, skipping them, etc.)
The ratings entered in the app do not affect the ratings that you give using iTunes or the iOS music app. Your songs original ratings are imported into Re/ during the first you launch the app or when a new song is added to the library. After that, the ratings are managed separately.
Check if you have mistakenly suppressed the song by going to: Settings > Suppressed Songs. If you see the song in the list, swipe it to the left to allow it to be played next time you open the app. If the song isn't in the list, be patient or try to increase the song rating next time it is played.
Re/s philosophy is that music should be listened without interruptions or distractions, therefore, we want you provide you a curated songlist that you will enjoy and want to listen without skipping tracks or pressing buttons.
If a song is rated with zero stars when you press and hold the dislike button, the song will be added to a supressed songs list, which you can revise going to the settings screen of the app.
If you add a song to the suppressed list, but it still plays next time you launch the app, that's probably because you have a duplicate of the song in your music library. Please open your iOS music app, search for duplicates of the song and remove them.
The app may take a few seconds to scan and process your music library when you launch it, especially if you have a large music library (e.g. > 10,000 songs). To reduce this time, adjust or reduce the 'Sample Size' option under the app settings.
Higher Sample Size values may require faster/newer iPhone models, since they scan a large quantity of songs every time the app is launched.
